STEM means Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The Dayton Regional STEM School (DRSS) is a modern minded school, culturally and educationally. Here at DRSS we learn through a different curriculum. For example, we learn a certain way called Project Based Learning. This is when instead of doing worksheets, we learn through projects, we also learn by doing hands on projects that relate to the topic/topics that we are learning, and learn through that project. We are also a school that has a very progressive minded student body. We accept every one for who they are no matter what. It is much easier to learn in an environment where you can focus on your education instead of what type of clothes you’re wearing. To me DRSS is special because it’s a school that is truly thinking about their student’s future and not just their test. Here we have 5 qualities to help our school culture, and the work, be the best it can be. Those qualities are Persistence, Inquiry, Collaboration, Creativity, and Communication. DRSS teaches us that these qualities are more important than grades and tests. They teach us this because after our school career we won’t be judged on how many questions on a quiz we can get right. In the real world you are judged on you character and quality of your work. These qualities play very important role in my life in and out of school. Here at DRSS these qualities help me know how to create quality professional work. Outside of school I use them to be able to perfect things like dance, songs and performances.
